O Thor

I chatted with Laurie Anderson. Holy fuck that is funny. Me. I did. I have a tape with me and Laurie Anderson talking to each other. I wish I was cooler and was not impressed with this, but I am not cool and I am impressed and just in love with the fact that it happened.

She is a lovely person. Christ - so thoughtful and considerate and a total brain and I think I only asked one really stupid question.

Anyway, I'm a bit impressed that it happened at all especially given the lack of sleep... I can't even remember what sequence things happened in today. I know I got home from work around 11pm, stayed up reading and checking my questions until about 3am, then realised that I needed a phone number to call at the arranged time of 8.30am. There were some emails flying around the planet. Mix ups with telephone prefixes. My brain dreamed me awake at 6am with some silliness about talking to Laurie's agent. There was an email from him saying try this number and it's now going to be 9.30 instead of 8.30 and I went back to couch clutching my phone only for The Dreaded One to wake me up because it was 8am and didn't I need to make the call in half an hour and fuck it was hard not to be cranky.

In the end, I talked to Laurie Anderson while she was in Monterey, Mexico. For me, she is up there with David Bowie and Tom Waits and others I can't think of right now because I am way tired.

Just finished story and sent it off. I think it works. I think it's okay. I hope it's okay. I think it's okay. Will post it here when it comes out in the mag.

Got to try to sleep. Nighty night.

Congrats! Can't wait to read the article. I don't think I'd ever want to meet any of my idols. There would just be too much pressure to make the most of the moment, and then I'd be kicking myself later for not saying this or that in a bid to impress them.

Hey Kat. Yes, exciting stuff. With the story, I wish I'd had a few days to sit on it and go back over it and really do stuff with it. It could have been better, but I think it might be okay.

Hello Y. Meeting your idols is an interesting thing. I was watching all the young girls going silly catching a glimpse of Deltra Goodrem the other night, and I still don't get that dumb-struck-in-the-presence-of-fame thing.

Laurie Anderson is the most famous person I've spoken to and yeah, I'm pretty thrilled because I remember the role her music played in my life so long ago (and always has - Strange Angels has never been far from the top of my rubble of CDs).

But this was just a chat with someone I knew was a creative and intelligent person and I kind of knew it would be okay.

I think if your idols are your idols for the right reasons, meeting them or chatting to them will be okay. I'm not sure they want to be impressed, unless they are wankers.

Hey GG. Sorry - you are one of the many who dropped off the link bits. Will zip over to Guyana again soon...

Gosh, you have great taste in musicians. Laurie Anderson, Tom Waits, David Bowie. Not necessarily in that order. :)

They are three biggies for me, Bohemienne. There are so many more, some not so stellar but who still give me such joy. I wish more people knew about Telemetry Orchestra, Lunaloop and Kolliope. All have made solid albums containing individual tracks that really nail it.
