Rejection

I can't post the Dylan Moran 'Rejection' clip directly for whatever reason, so here is a link to it. Watch it please. It's classic. Sums up where my head is at. I'll probably keep writing fiction for me, but Holy Santa Claus I hate those rejection letters. Apparently I haven't got The Thing, and that's ok. I just have to accept it.

I really believed my most recent story, Leaving Ruben Jane, was good enough, but it just drew a standard thanks but no thanks rejection. I really can't be bothered anymore.

Awesome video.

I used to submit stuff to publishing companies and agents. I've been through the whole rejection thing. I'm not even sure if it was my novels that were that bad. My query letter would RARELY make the cut.

Rejection is a pain--especially when you really have your hopes up high.

I don't think a rejection letter means you don't have it in you though. It's THEIR opinion. And that's all.

I like blogging because I don't like having someone else decide if my writing is okay or not. The money's not that good, but oh well.

I second Dina. And I think you'll make it if not sooner than later on. And if you don't, that's ok, too. Because whether your writing is in print or online, it's affecting an audience(i.e. me).

Thanks Dina. I have volumes of rejection letters from when I was really keen to make it as a fiction writer. One story I persisted with for four years. It was rejected by every lit mag in the country before taking out first prize in a high profile competition, so I know how subjective it is. I just don't think I have the energy to do that again.

I am looking into Lulu and making my own book, a collection of my published and unpublished short stories. Just a little project for me, and for friends who might be interested.

And thank you, Chicago Kat. That is very sweet. You say good things and I appreciate it a lot. When the ideas come I will get the stories down and at least make sure I send you a copy.

And in reality, I will probably persist with Ruben Jane because I do believe it has The Thing. I was just in a particularly shitty mood at the time of writing.

(At the time of writing this post, I mean).

Sorry to hear that, Lee. You know I love your short stories, and would love to see them in print as well.

Meh, Y. Water off a duck's back when I'm writing lots. Just not writing much at the moment and it would be nice if it worked out better.

But you know. Whatever.

Hey, sorry to hear about your rejection. But it doesn't mean your stuff isn't good. It just means they were too busy, or too blind, or too stupid. But the Dylan Moran clip sums it up perfectly, doesn't it.
